UPDATE: in 2017 we were invited to stage the opera at one of the highest regarded symphony halls in the world, the Musikverein. The classical world, especially the Viennese, are not known for their openness to new interpretations of the form. But somehow we managed to win them over.
Bill Barminski and I helped reinvent the 100 year old opera, The Cunning Little Vixen, with the world renown orchestra and conductor Franz Welser-Möst. We worked with opera director Yuval Sharon and the marketing and creative team of the Cleveland Orchestra to create a one of a kind opera.
- The goal was to create an updated opera experience that would appeal to a younger audience.
- Helped create and oversaw all media and promotional materials.
- Worked with artist Bill Barminski and art directed and animated the entire story of the opera.
- We projected the story onto three 30x16ft screens behind the orchestra. Backstage there were portal doors that the singers could open, pop their heads out and sing in place of the animated characters.
